Awls & Hafts

C.S. Osborne Awl Blades & Hafts

Awl Blades are used to make pilot holes in leather ready for stitching and are generally used in the shoe making and saddlery trades.  They are mounted on a haft (handle) and can be interchanged when required. Fitting awl blades into a haft can be tricky and will generally require a vice to hold the awl and a mallet to tap the haft onto it. within this section you will find various different blade types including harness awls, stitching awls and striking awls. A very popular item is the Automatic Awl which has a needle with an eye attached to roll of waxed thread and held in place by a wooden handle.
